Guest Lecture on “Entrepreneurship or Employment – Contemporary Options for Youth in India” on 20th September, 2023

The P.G. Department of Commerce & Business Administration, Khalsa College Amritsar organized Guest Lecture on “Entrepreneurship or Employment – Contemporary Options for Youth in India” with the students of the Commerce Department in the Main Hall of the college on 20th September, 2023. This event was planned and executed under the supervision of Principal Dr. Mehal Singh (Programme Chairman), and Dr. A..K.  Kahlon (Programme Director). The Guest Speaker of this Programme was S. Harjinder Singh Cheema, Founder and Managing Director  of Cheema Boiler Ltd. Principal Dr, Mehal Singh extended formal welcome to the Chief Guest and stimulated the students for this Interactive Talk by saying that our commerce students should have business oriented mind. Dr. Deepak Devgan (Programme Co-ordinator) introduced the Chief Guest and highlighted the object of Programme that it aims to provide proper guidance and career counselling to our passionate youth about doing something unique and extraordinary.

The Key Speaker emphasized that the students should not be job seekers rather they should be job providers. A massive proportion of the youth population is driven by entrepreneurship, considered a feasible and more reliable career option than paid employment. It sees entrepreneurship as a means to achieve its goals and gain a sense of accomplishment. He further tinted that for becoming successful entrepreneur, one should possess five qualities such as Confidence, Courage, Commitment, Consistency and Communication. It has become a new way to achieve what one is capable of. Moreover, the zeal to do something new and be one's boss makes it a perfect option for young individuals. Many young individuals who find it hard to work for others find entrepreneurship excellent and fulfilling. However, while many take entrepreneurship with full enthusiasm and passion, a huge chunk of young individuals take entrepreneurship not out of choice but necessity. The necessity to support family earnings and the unavailability of desired job type forces them to take the course. Lack of adequate job opportunities causes youth to find alternative means of livelihood. Youth is the central job seeker as they traverse their journey from adolescence to youth. Dr. A.K. Kahlon extended vote of thanks. Around 500 students participated in this programme.
