Inter College Flower Show Spring2019 and Interactions with Environmentalists held at Khalsa College Amritsar

 

Spring is the favourite season of all beings where nature comes back into life in the form of sight, sound and colour. Keeping up the tradition of celebrating Spring every year, the Botanical Society and P.G. Department of Botany, Khalsa College-Amritsar organized “Inter College Flower Show, Spring-2019” and seminar on the topic “The Search for Environmental Justice”. Dr. Mehal Singh, Principal, Khalsa College extended a warm welcome to all the participants and stressed upon the need to prevent environmental degradation due to anthropogenic activities. Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, delivered a lecture on Environmental Justice. He is recognized for his contribution in resurrection of 110 km long Kali Bein rivulet. He emphasized on sustainable development by adopting a lifestyle which put's least burden on natural resources. He stressed upon the concept of 'Clean Earth Green Earth'. He mentioned that planting more trees is the only alternative to do justice with the Mother Earth. The speaker motivated the young minds to take the initiative to go green and make efforts to do little things every day to reduce harmful impact on the environment. About 400 Students from various institutions, Nurseries and NGOs participated in the flower show,Spring-2019 by competing with their entries in various categories viz. Flowering plants, Foliage plants, Succulents and Bonsai. The prizes were distributed to the winners.
