About Department

ABOUT DEPARTMENT OF FOOD SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Khalsa College was the first college to start the discipline of Food Science & Technology in this region in 1988 under Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar. Department at present is running a four year Bachelor of Food Science & Technology (H) degree as well as two year M.Sc. Food Science and Technology and is emerging as a significant landmark in the quality education of Food science and Technology. Recently, NAAC particularly appreciated this department recognizing its excellence and magnificence in imparting education in a very disciplined and methodological way.

Seventeen students of this department became Head of the departments, Professors, Associate and Assistant professors in Indian and Centre run institutes by getting higher degrees in Food Science & Technology. Students of this department got selected in M.S. programme in various international universities such as Reading University England, Victoria University Australia, University of Alberta and Guelph University Canada. Many students have also got research assistant-ship in American, Canadian and Australian Universities. The students of the Department are working in various industries like Nestle, Jagatjit Industry, Cremica, Bakeman’s, Coca Cola, Britannia, Milkfed verka, Nijjer Agro, Pepsi Agro, Cadbury England, Macdowell Sweden, and Wockhardt etc. 

 

AIMS AND OBJECIVES OF DEPARTMENT OF FOOD SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

 

  • To impart superior and improved skills to our youth through practice based industry oriented teaching as per the present day requirement of the rapidly growing food processing industry for better opportunities in the national and international job market and for self employment in food processing sector.
  • To develop a technical based education system responsive of new technologies in food processing to the need of local and global industries.
  • The department is committed to achieve excellence in the areas of technical education and serve as per the international standards.
  • The department is committed to contribute in the development of Food Science & Technology education and recognizes its role in providing highly trained personnel to Indian and International Food Industries
  • The department is also committed to the objectives of Khalsa College and Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar.
