Design Thinking, Critical Thinking and Innovation Design on dated 03.04.2025

 

PG Department of Food Science Technology in collaboration with IIC, Khalsa College Amritsar organized a lecture on Design Thinking, Critical Thinking and Innovation Design on dated 03.04.2025in the Skill Development Centre of the college. Dr. M S Batra, Director Skill Development Centre was the resource person and the lecture was attended by fifty students and faculty members from different departments.

Introducing the topic, Dr. Batra emphasized on the role of Design Thinking, Critical Thinking and Innovation Design to the students and Dr. Batra very well explained all the concepts. Dr. Batra told that design thinking is a human-centered problem-solving approach that emphasizes empathy, collaboration, iteration, and testing to create solutions. It involves stages like empathizing with users, defining the problem, ideating solutions, prototyping, and testing.  Dr. Batra also explained about Critical Thinking to the students and faculty which involves analyzing and evaluating information, arguments, and evidence to arrive at logical conclusions. In the context of design thinking, critical thinking helps in identifying assumptions, biases, and potential pitfalls in the problem-solving process.  The speaker told to the students and faculty that Innovation is the process of bringing new and creative ideas to life, often involving taking risks and challenging the status quo. Design thinking provides a framework for fostering innovation by encouraging creativity and experimentation. 

Design thinking skills play a crucial role in the problem solving process. The speaker highlighted the importance of core thinking skills such as focusing, gathering, organizing, analysing, connecting and generating. The role of Convergent vs divergent thinking; critical and creative thinking skills in innovation design process in day to day life and work place was well explained by citing examples from different fields. 

At the back of critical thinking team work play an important role. Brain storming encourages people to think creatively and without boundaries, which can lead to innovative solutions. Overall this lecture was very helpful for the students and faculty for designing innovative ideas through deign thinking and critical thinking.
