Industrial Visit to The Batala Co-operative Sugar Mill (Gurdaspur Distt.) on dated 27.02.2025


 

 

Objective:

The visit was organized to provide practical knowledge and understanding of the sugar production process to the students. To observe and learn about the various stages involved in sugar manufacturing including its quality. To familiarize the student with the machinery, equipment, and technology used in a sugar mill.

 

Benefits in Terms of Learning/Skill/Knowledge: Industrial visit to sugar mill will develop skills and knowledge relevant to a career in the sugar industry. Students had gained experience how to communicate with professionals and experts in the field & asked question to resolve their queries related to operational and management aspects of a sugar mill. Visit to sugar mill would be beneficial for students to collect data and information for research purposes.

 

Report:  PG Department Science & Technology organized a one day Industrial visit for M.Sc. - II, M.Sc. - IVth Semester & BFST-VIth Semester students to “The Batala Co-operative Sugar Mill” (Gurdaspur Distt.). During visit to the sugar mill, students witnessed the entire sugar production process. Students firstly began by observing the cane reception area, where freshly harvested sugarcane was unloaded and prepared for processing. After that students entered in the mill, there they saw the juice extraction process, where the sugarcane was crushed and the juice was extracted. They observed & learned about the clarification, evaporation and crystallization processes, which transform the raw juice into refined sugar. The students also learnt about working mechanism of mill's machinery and equipment. Throughout the visit, professional & staff provided the students with valuable insights into the mill's operations, highlighting the importance of quality control, safety protocols and environmental sustainability. Overall, visit to the sugar mill was very informative and enlightening for the students.
