Post Graduate Department of Botany, Khalsa College Amritsar Organized Tree Plantation Drive on 17 September 2024

Considering the rapid degradation of the environment due to anthropogenic activities, tree plantation is the urgent need of the hour. With a promise to save environment, the students of Post Graduate Department of Botany of Khalsa College Amritsar carried out "Tree Plantation Drive" on 17 September, 2024. The objective of plantation drive was to instill love towards Mother Nature among the students. Such activity paves a way towards environment conservation. The students along with the faculty members planted saplings in the Botanical garden. The saplings of Neem, Ashoka, Moringa, Citrus, Putranjiwa, Alstonia, Guava, Sapota and various ornamental and medicinal plants were planted during the drive. Dr. Mehal Singh, Principal, Khalsa College Amritsar addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of trees in every aspect of human life. He further added that planting of trees is necessary because trees provide oxygen to environment and make the air quality better. The tree plantation reduces pollution and making the life of future generation secure. Dr. Balwinder Singh, Head. P.G. Department of Botany distributed saplings to the students which could be a way to raise the awareness about the importance of planting trees and the need to maintain ecological balance.
