He explained that the primary cause of ongoing climate change is often referred to as global warming. He emphasized that planet's average surface temperature has risen about 2.0 degrees Fahrenheit (1.1 degrees Celsius) since the late 19th century which is driven largely by increased carbon dioxide and most of the warming has taken place in the past 35 years. The speaker motivated the young minds to take the initiative to go green and make efforts to do little things every day to help reduce greenhouse gases and make a less harmful impact on the environment. He stressed that taking care of the Earth is not just a responsibility -- it's a privilege. Students from sixteen colleges participated in the flower show and poster competition.
