The Historical Khalsa College Amritsar witnessed an exuberant Annual Inter-College Flower Show Spring 2020 and seminar on Green way of Living


 

The Botanical and Environment Science Society, P.G. Deptt. of Botany, Khalsa College, Amritsar organized "Inter College Flower Show "Spring 2020" and seminar on "Green way of Living" on March 3, 2020.  Dr. Mehal Singh inaugurated "Spring 2020" festival. He extended a warm welcome to all participants and enlightened the students about the importance of plants and flower in our life. He motivates students for the cultivation and maintaining the green belts to reduce the pollution level. Dr. Rohit Mehra, IRS, Additional Income Tax Commissioner, Ludhiana and a very popular worker on vertical gardening delivered a lecture on Green way of living. Mr. Rohit Mehra, explained the causes, types and consequences of pollution. He discussed the data and relationship of disease occurrence and pollution. In the lecture he explained the procedure of establishment of vertical garden and how this kind of garden lowers the pollution level and improve AQI. He motivates students through the picture of established vertical gardens at various governmental institutions, schools, Gurudawara, and Corporate houses.  He also discussed the role of Seed Balls in green plantation drive and these seed balls are very helpful for afforestation at high altitude and hilly regions of India. The speaker motivated the young minds to take the initiative to go green and make efforts to do little things every day to help reduce greenhouse gases and make a less harmful impact on the environment. He stressed that taking care of the Earth is not just a responsibility - it's a privilege. More than 300 students from 16 colleges/institutions participated in the flower show competition. During this competition students presented potted plants with unique breathtaking arrangements. Principal Dr. Mehal Singh gave away the prizes to the winners. Prof. Kirandeep Kaur Hundal Head of Department applauded the efforts of teachers and students on successful organization of such a well rounded event which encouraged students to share their extracurricular talents and build an all round personality and proposed vote of thanks. Dr. Harjinder Singh, Dr. Madhu,     Dr. Rajbir Singh, Dr. Prabhjit Kaur, Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Dr. Sushant Sharma, Dr. Maninder Kaur, Prof. Ramandeep Kaur, Prof. Manmeet Kaur, Prof. Sandeep Kaur, Prof. Harpreet were present on the occasion.
