Workshop on Jam Making

November 25th , 2024

On November 25, 2024, fifty students from Government Senior Secondary School, Jabbowal, Amritsar, India visited the Food Science and Technology Laboratory at the Khalsa Global Reach Skill Development Center accompanied by two teachers. This visit was aimed at providing students with firsthand exposure to the field of Food science and Technology to plan their career aspirations and participate in a one day workshop on jam making.

  • Welcome and Introduction: The students were warmly welcomed by Dr. Gursharan Kaur, Head, Department of Food Science and Technology, who provided a brief overview of the Food Processing Laboratory and its activities. Students were also greeted by Dr. M.S. Batra, Director, Skill Development Center, who told about various activities that have been arranged in skill development center and how students can become successful entrepreneur in future.
  • Laboratory Tour: The students were then taken on a guided tour of the laboratory, where they had the chance to observe and learn about various equipment and processes used in food industry.
  • Workshop: Students were demonstrated about the preparation of jam and made them participate in various steps of the process by Dr. Sandeep Singh, Dr. Anu Sharma and Dr. Amandeep Kaur. The visit included interactive demonstrations conducted by the laboratory staff. Students witnessed processes like food preservation techniques, food analysis methods, and even participated in basic activities like preparing dough or testing the quality of milk.
  • Question and Answer Session: An open forum for questions and answers was facilitated, allowing students to clarify their doubts and gain deeper insights into the field.

The visit to the Food Science and Technology Laboratory at the Skill Development Center was an enriching and informative experience for the students of Government Senior Secondary School, Jabbowal, Amritsar. Students also enjoyed making jam and learning about its process. The visit potentially sparked interest in Food science and Technology as a future career path for some students.
