The Zoological Society of PG Department of Zoology celebrated “World Ozone Day-2022” on 16th September, 2022.

The Zoological Society of PG Department of Zoology celebrated “World Ozone Day-2022” on 16th September, 2022. The day is celebrated worldwide to create awareness about the importance and need of the Ozone layer which is providing protection to living world against the UV rays coming out from the sun. Increasing pollution due to industrialization has been a continuous threat leading to depletion of ozone layer resulting in penetration of UV rays in earth’s atmosphere, which is the major cause of increasing incidence of skin cancers among humans. During this event, students of B.Sc. (Medical) and M.Sc. (Zoology) participated in various competitions like Quiz, Rangoli and Photography. Principal Dr. Mehal Singh addressed the participants and discussed the role of ozone layer and importance of its conservation for mankind. He also added that this kind of awareness programs can help the students in understanding the role of the ozone layer. Dr. Amandeep Singh, Co-convener of the Zoological Society conducted the stage. Dr. Jasjit Kaur Randhawa, Head of the department presented vote of thanks to Principal all the participants, judges and faculty members. Prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners.
