Seminar on “Gender Equalty: Re-imagining Herstory” by Gender Champions Club


 

 

The Gender Champions Club, Khalsa College, Amritsar organized Seminar on “Gender Equalty: Re-imagining Herstory” at 11:00 A.M.in the Seminar Hall on 10th March, 2023. Dr Raminder Kaur, Professor and Former Head School of Punjabi Studies, G.N.D.U, Amritsar was the Chief guest in this seminar. Dr.Ravinder Pal Bamrah, Medical Officer Dental, Urban Public Centre, Sakatri Bagh, Amritsar was the resource person. Dr Mehal Singh, Principal Khalsa College, highlighted the audience that this event is dedicated to International Women's Day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women from all around the world. Dr.Sawraj Kaur, Nodal Officer (female) of Gender Champions Club, while introducing a guest speaker spotlighted the significance of International Women’s Day which is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women, who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.The Chief Guest Dr RaminderKaur addressed that International Women's Day is one of the most important days of the year to celebrate women's achievements, to educate and raise awareness for women's equality, to call for positive change in advancing women, lobby for accelerated gender parity and fundraise for female-focused charities. Dr.Ravinder Pal Bamrah motivated the students to instil in their minds the importance of gender equality for the upliftment of the society. She stressed that in order to develop a progressive nation; Gender Equality plays a vital role as women constitute half of the world's population. Gender equality prevents violence against women and girls. It’s essential for economic prosperity. Societies that value women and men as equal are safer and healthier.Dr Parminder Singh, Nodal Officer (male) of the Gender Champions club proposed a vote of thanks and focussed that we can all embrace equityand to truly embrace equity means to deeply believe, value, and seek out difference as a necessary and positive element of life. To embrace equity means to understand the journey required to achieve women's equality. He emphasized that the club used to organise such events to acquaint the students with  the understanding of equality of gender, and expose and redress issues of discrimination of women in the workplace.On this occasion, more than 80 participants were participated. Dr ArvinderKaurKahlon, Dr Bhupinder Singh,Dr.Kuldeep Singh, Dr Ajay Sehgal, Prof. Meenu Chopra, Dr Heera Singh, Gender Champions Armaanpreet Singh, Ishika, Gurjoban Singh, Rohitdeepkaur, GopikaChopra along with other club members were also present.
