The Botanical and Environment Science Society, Post Graduate Department of Botany, Khalsa College Amritsar organized Amritsar Flower Show "Spring 2025" and National Seminar on "Pollution Abatement Strategies". Dr. Arvinder Kaur Kahlon, Principal, Khalsa College Amritsar inaugurated the event and extended a warm welcome to the participants. Dr. Sushant Sharma, Organizing Secretary, P.G. Department of Botany introduced the participants about the event and importance of flower show and the seminar. Dr. Madhu, the co-coordinator of the society provided a brief introduction of the keynote speaker Dr. Satwinderjeet Kaur, Professor, Department of Botanical and Env. Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. The speaker highlights the importance of quality of air and emphasized on indoor air pollution. Dr. Satwinderjeet Kaur made the audience aware about the serious concerns of higher level of air pollutants in confinements. Dr. Satwinderjeet Kaur provided some eco-friendly and sustainable solutions to combat indoor air pollution. The speaker recommended some indoor plants which will act as air purifiers i.e. Agalonema (Chinese Evergreen), Gerbera (gerbera daisies), Dracaena (dragon tree), Chlorophytum (Spider Plant), Sansevieria (Snake Plant), Aloe barbedensis (Aloe Vera), Crassula ovata (Jade Plant), Syngonium podophyllum (arrowhead leaves), Focus benjamena (Weeping fig), Nephrolepis exaltata (Boston fern) etc. Approximately 450 participants from various institutions, schools and nurseries participated in the flower show under different categories viz. seasonal flowers, Foliage Plants/Indoor Plants, Medicinal Plants, Succulents/Cacti and bonsai. Students from different institutions participated in Garland/Flower Ornaments Making. There were also poster competition on topic Biodiversity and its conservation and Pollution control for clean and green environment. The quiz competition of students from different institutions was carried out with lot of excitement and eagerness. Dr. Balwinder Singh, Head, P.G. Department of Botany appreciated the efforts of students and staff and proposed vote of thanks to members of society, participants, teaching and non-teaching staff on successful organization of event.
