Gender Champions Club, Red Ribbon Club, and Youth Welfare Department of Khalsa College Amritsar, in collaboration with Master Lakhbir Singh Hockey Club, Lehraka, organized a ‘Nukkad Natak’ on important social issues like HIV/Aids, drug abuse, environmental protection, and gender equality on11th February, 2025. The event took place at Government Elementary School, Lehraka, at 11:00 AM. The program commenced with a warm welcome by S. Gurdarshan Singh (Incharge), who appreciated the initiative and commended the students and organizers for their efforts in addressing crucial social concerns.
Principal Dr. A.K. Kahlon applauded the dedication of the organizing clubs and highlighted the role of such events in shaping a responsible and aware society. She encouraged students and community members to actively participate in such initiatives to bring about positive change.
The event was planned and successfully conducted under the guidance of Dr. Sawraj Kaur (Nodal Officer) and Dr. Parminder Singh (Nodal Officer) of the Gender Champions Club. Dr. Sawraj Kaur emphasized the importance of spreading awareness through creative mediums like street play, awareness rally, poem/songs by students. She mentioned that such initiatives help in educating the youth about social issues and inspire them to be responsible citizens.
Dr. Parminder Singh highlighted the need for community participation in tackling these issues. He stated, by working together, we can create a society free from drug abuse, more environmentally conscious, and gender-equal. Both the Nodal officers also mentioned about the various academic courses offered by Khalsa College. Prof. Deepika from the Theatre Department also shared her views on the impact of performing arts in social awareness campaigns.
Dr, Devender Singh (Registrar), Dr. Atam Singh Randhawa (Head, Punjabi Department), Dr. Surjit Kaur (Head, Hindi Department), Dr. Deepak Devgan and Dr. Poonam Sharma also cherished the efforts of the club. Prof. Meenu Chopra, Dr. Harpreet Kaur Mehrok and Dr. Navpreet Kulaar took over the charge of publicity and media. As a token of appreciation, S. Gurdarshan Singhwas honoured with a Khalsa College scenery/picture by the college staff.
The Nukkad Natak, performed by Mohit, Jaswinder, Sallis, Achal, Tarandeep Kaur, Mandeep Kaur, Parmbhag Singh, Rajbir and Lovedeep Singh, captivated the audience with its powerful message. Following the Natak, an awareness rally was carried out, featuring performances by poetry students Sartaj Singh and Priyadeep Kaur, while Rajanbir’s singing and the band performance by John Pal and Sikander added an artistic and engaging touch to the event.
Additionally, several other students namely, Navneet Kaur, Kiranpreet Kaur, Ashima Nagpal, Anshpreet Singh, Ashish Mehta, Jagpreet Singh, Haraasis Singh, Tamanna Khanna, Rishi Chopra, and Sukhmandeep Singh, actively joined the event, showing their dedication towards social causes.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of all participants and organizers who contributed in making the program a great success. The organizers expressed their gratitude to the school authorities for their support in facilitating the event. The initiative highlighted the commitment of Khalsa College Amritsar and its associated clubs toward fostering social responsibility among the youth.
