The Gender Champions Club, Khalsa College, Amritsar organized a “Poster Competition on Gender Equality” on 15th February, 2023 at 10:30 A.M. in the Book Fair Ground.Dr Gagandeep Kaur, an Eminent gynaecologist and Alumnus of the college was the Chief guest in this event. Dr Mehal Singh, Principal Khalsa College, Amritsar welcomed the guest speaker and motivated the students to instil in their minds the importance of gender equality for the upliftment of the society. Hence the objective of the competition was to spread awareness about one such challenge, the issue of gender sensitivity. The Guest Speaker stressed that in order to develop a progressive nation, Gender Equality plays a vital role as women constitute half of the world's population. Gender equality prevents violence against women and girls. It’s essential for economic prosperity. Societies that value women and men as equal are safer and healthier.
Dr.Sawraj Kaur, Nodal Officer (female) of Gender Champions Club, while introducing a guest speaker said that inequalities are the root cause of deteriorating values in the modern society. She highlighted that the posters help in advocating awareness of gender issues by their simple straightforward approach and ability to reach out to a larger audience. She added that this competition was a means to educate the students about the prevalent gender biases at work and to inculcate in them that gender equality matters.
Dr Parminder Singh, Nodal Officer (male) of the Gender Champions club proposed a vote of thanks and highlighted that in order to remove this inequality; people need to cut the deep rooted values imbibed by the society. He emphasized that the club organises such events to acquaint the students with the understanding of equality of gender, and expose and redress issues of discrimination of women in the workplace. The Chief Guest selected first three posters where Amandeep Kaur from BSc VI Sem declared as 1st,Taranjeet Kaur from B.Com Hons VI Semas 2nd and Kamalpreet Kaur from B.Com (R) IV Semas 3rd .
