The P.G. Department of Political and Public Administration under the patronage of Dr. Mehal Singh, Principal, Khalsa College, Amritsar organized a Guest Lecture on South Asia: A Region Between Hope and Despair. Dr Dhananjay Tripathi, Chairperson & Associate Professor, Department of International Relations, South Asian University, New Delhi was the resource person who spoke on the broader theme of the South Asia in the contemporary context. Dr. Devender Singh, Registrar of the college welcomed the esteemed speaker. Dr. Tirpathi in his lecture said that a discussion on contemporary South Asia is incomplete without a mention of Amritsar. It is important because South Asia is not only a post-colonial but also a post-partitioned region. It was the British who created different borders in South Asia and, we have to overcome these borders particularly the mental borders. In his lecture Dr. Tirtpathi highlighted how young South Asians can add to the prosperity of the region if we develop better political ties by promoting trade and connectivity. He said that South Asia will remain important for India as India is primarily a South Asian power. He said, it is time to think of socio-cultural South Asia and, this region is historically and culturally interlinked. Students participated in the questions and answer session and asked interesting questions like how and when we can overcome the mental borders?

Principal Dr. Mehal Singh in his address stressed to foster better ties among the countries of the region in order to reap the overall potential of the region.
