Educational tour to Punjab State War Heroes’ Memorial & Museum and Pul Kanjari, 22 September 2023 organised by History Society

History Society of the PG Department of History organized a one day educational tour to Punjab State War Heroes’ Memorial & Museum and Pul Kanjari on 22 September 2023 for graduate and post-graduate students of History. Students were accompanied by the faculty members, Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Dr. Supreet Kaur, Prof. Manpreet Kaur, and Prof. Gursahib Singh, who guided them to derive maximum benefit from the tour. The visit was full of historical information about the Pul Kanjari and Indian heritage preserved in the Punjab State War Heroes’ Memorial. The students were told about the history of Pul Kanjari, also known as Pul Moran. It is a historical site situated 35 km away from Amritsar, on the road from Amritsar to Lahore near the villages of Dhanoa Khurd and Dhanoa Kalan on the Wagha border. At this place Maharaja Ranjit Singh used to rest while travelling with his troops. It is believed that when Maharaja Ranjit Singh married Begum Gul Bahar, on their way to Lahore they had to cross a canal on the Ravi river. People used to cross this canal by foot but Begum Gul Bahar refused to do so. So the Maharaja built a small bridge for her. Some part of the bridge still exists today. The Pul Kanjari complex contains a large pool, a temple, a Gurdwara, and a resting house. However, except the pool all other structures of the place are in a ruinous position now. The War Memorial depicts Indian History from Ancient to Contemporary times, including the history of Punjab. The students also watched there a 7D show entitled ‘Veeran Di Gatha’.
