P.G. Department of Economics, Khalsa College, Amritsar under the guidance of Dr. Anju Sharma (HOD) organized a field visit to Organic Farms, Khalsa College, Amritsar for the Post Graduate Students of Economics Department (Sem II and Sem IV) on Feb 3, 2025. The purpose of this visit was to make the students aware about the benefits and different processes of Organic Farming. The students were accompanied by two faculty members of P.G. Department of Economics, Dr. Saveeta and Dr. Supreet Kaur. Firstly, the students visited Bio-Control Lab. Incharge of the Bio-Control Lab, Dr. R.P. Singh explained elaboratively about the Tricho Cards and their use in protecting the crop of Sugarcane. Then, the students were taken to the fields, where organic vegetables and sugarcane were grown. Thereafter, students were also shown the process of jaggery making organically. The students visited the store of Khalsa College, where Organic vegetables and agricultural products are sold to the people. Moreover, the students also visited those fields, where vegetable cultivation is done under protected environment e.g. mushroom cultivation. The visit provided experience to the students of observing an organic farm and about all farm activities. The students also had a fruitful discussion with the Incharge of Bio-Tech Lab, Dr. R.P. Singh about the farm design, farm practices, marketing and difficulties involved in Organic Farming. The students really enjoyed the visit to organic farms.
