The Economics Society of P.G. Department of Economics, Khalsa College, Amritsar organized a Community Outreach Programme, entitled “Disability Sensitization” on 26th October 2024


 

  The Economics Society of P.G. Department of Economics, Khalsa College, Amritsar organized a Community Outreach Programme, entitled “Disability Sensitization” on 26th October 2024 at Pehal Government Resource Centre, Karampura, Amritsar. The purpose of this visit was to sensitize students of Economics department towards  differently abled children. Before sending off the bus of students to the Resource Centre, Principal Khalsa College, Dr. A.K. Kahlon addressed the students and apprised them of the significance of this community outreach programme and gave her best wishes. Dr. Anju Sharma (Convenor), Dr. Geetinder Mann, Dr. Navjot and Dr. Supreet Kaur (Co-Convenor) of Economics Department accompanied 55 students to the resource Centre.

At Pehal Government Resource Centre, Sh. Amar Bahadur Moriya (DSE, Amritsar), the administrator of the Centre made the students aware about the origin and working of Pehal Government Resource Centre. Mr. Dharminder Singh of the Centre sensitized the students about special children. He encouraged the students to visit the centre and spend some time with differently abled children to help them nurture their talent in singing, painting and sports etc.  Students of our department also celebrated Diwali with special children. Students performed various activities like Mimicry, Group Dance, Solo Dance, Poem Recitation etc. and also involved the students of the centre with them. Students of the centre also showcased their talent by participating enthusiastically in various activities.  The students of The Economics Society also distributed snacks and drinks to the students of the Centre. The teachers and the members of the economics society conveyed special thanks to the administrators of the Centre for their kind cooperation and arrangements. On the whole, the visit inspired the students to give respect, love and care to disabled children in the society and also encouraged them to indulge in social work for the betterment of the society.
