Economics Society of P.G. Department of Economics, Khalsa College Amritsar organized a One Day Workshop on the topic “Significance of Computer in the World of Economics” on 25th October, 2024. Dr. Prabhsimran Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer, Engineering and Technology, Guru Nanak Dev University was the resource person. President of Economics Society, Guneesha Makkar of M.A (Economics) Sem III welcomed all the participants and teachers, who attended the workshop.
Dr. Rachhpal Singh, Co-ordinator of the workshop, introduced the resource person to the participants. Dr. Prabhsimran Singh discussed in detail about the evolution of the computer generations. He explained how computers have evolved through five generations, with each generation bringing improvements in speed, accuracy and size of computers. The speaker also explained with examples, the significance of computers in the field of Economics for digital economy, Data Collection and Analysis, Data presentation, Economic Analysis and Forecasting, e-trading or e-business, Database Management System, e-materials etc. Further, he elaborated on various applications of computers in the field of banking and other financial institutions. He also mentioned about the importance of statistical packages like SPSS and STATA for analysing large data sets very easily.
Principal Dr. A. K. Kahlon addressed the students regarding the significance of computer in Economics and graced the occasion.
Students and teachers interacted very enthusiastically with the resource person and their doubts were cleared by the resource person. Secretary of the society (Jaskiran Kaur of B.Sc (Economics) Sem V) presented the vote of thanks. Faculty members of Economics department Dr. Anju Sharma (HOD), Dr. Geetinder Mann, Dr. Saveeta, Dr. Navjot, Dr. Supreet Kaur, Dr. Seozy Bhatia and students of undergraduate and post graduate classes were present in the workshop.
