Department of Physiotherapy organised FREE BMD CHECK-UP CAMP


The Department of Physiotherapy, Khalsa College Amritsar organized a free Bone Mineral Density (BMD) check-up camp on 20th February, 2019. The camp was inaugurated by the Honorary Secretary of Khalsa College Charitable Society S. Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina along with Dr. Mehal Singh, Principal, Khalsa College, Amritsar. The camp was organized with the motive to detect the deficiency of calcium in the bones of people with age 25 years and above. A total number of 250 people from the areas nearby the Khalsa College Amritsar availed the free services of this camp and underwent the assessment of their bone mineral density levels. It was found that out of 250 people, 44 % people were having normal bone mineral density levels. 56 % patients were diagnosed with low bone mineral density level, most of which were found to be osteopenic.

The department also distributed free calcium supplements to the osteopenic and osteoporotic patients i.e. the persons diagnosed with low bone mineral density levels. The patients were also advised to follow a healthy diet and take other nutritional supplements. The experts guided them on the diet to raise the bone mineral density levels and diet charts were also distributed to them. The BMD testing equipment was provided by ‘Bond Technologies’, New Delhi. The camp arrangements were applauded by the people.

S. Rajinder Mohan Chhina appreciated the efforts of the Physiotherapy department and also visited the department O.P.D. He interacted with the O.P.D. patients and said that Khalsa College Management is committed to provide the best possible Physiotherapy charitable services to the society. Principal Dr. Mehal Singh congratulated the head of Physiotherapy Department Dr. Davinder Kaur Dhillon and the other staff members of the Department for organizing such event and assured that the college will keep providing such free services to the society through the camps in the future also. Dr. Kawaldeep Kaur, Dr. Harneet Kaur, Dr. Manpreet Kaur, Dr. Rajdeep Kaur, Dr. Sukhdeep Kaur and Ms. Navneet Kaur were present in the camp.
